George Evans Review

In my time on holiday in ST. Ives we visited many galleries, the most memorable was the Tate. The Tate was showing a Brooklyn artist named Alex Katz. His art was the spark for the pop art craze and his portfolio spans over 6 decades back to the 50's. Katz used a lot of colour this helped enthasise his massive scale work. He painted both landscapes and portraits, and used quite complex subjects, but he paints them in quite a simple style. At first i found his work too bright and quite ugly, but as i looked at it it sort of grew on me.

We went on a trip with school to Salford Museum which is on Chapel Street next to Peel Park. Whilst we were there we saw the Victorial paintings. It was good to get close to the paintings and it was a very good experience. The bad parts about the museum is that there are not many sculptures and there are not very many well know names. In the museum there were different sections of paintings. There is also a victorian street where you can dress as a Victorian child and look through windows in  middle class , higher class  and lower class houses. There is also a sweet shop.










I have also been to see Parnorman the film. It is about a boy called Norman who tells people that he can see ghosts and then the day of the zombies arrives. I liked it because it was funny animation for all ages and it wasn't very long.

I'd tell a person my age to go and see Paranorman because its not very long and its a great day out for all. I'd tell a younger person to go to Salford Museum because it teaches you a lot about the old age and the living conditions.

I was Really looking forwards to looking at the Art Gallery.  The first thing which impressed me abvout the First Cut Exhibition was the map piece at the top of the stairs by Susan Stockwell.

And this piece By Justin Smith. I thought that I could use paper to make a forest or a wood or maybe a map of my entire life. I thought that the work was outstanding.

 The work I liked the least was by Beatrice Coran.












I found Chris Jones The earl inspirational. I liked The clore interactive gallery because the mirrors were awsome and the ghost story was intertesting.

On going into the David Shrigley exhibition "How are you Feeling" you are instructed that you shouldn't hit the gong too hard but that you can have a nap.

"How are you Feeling?"  "I am feeling fine" I thought it was rude coz it was "Show I****s and ****s but I didn't like the swearing. The David Shrigley exhibition was rude but I like it.

As I began the day I was looking forwards to seeing the art. Along the way to the gallery we came across the fountains in Picadilly gardens. I would class these as art. Also in picadilly and worth a look in the piece of public art shaped like a tree which was created in remembrance of those who died in the war.

On getting to the Manchester Art Gallery we saw the work by Chris Jones in the main entrance. I thought that it was a clever use of paper, a skillfull creation of a different thing to make.









The first exhibition we saw was at the Manchester Art Gallery. I liked this gallery because it had different types of art so you wern't just looking at one type of art.  My favourite piece was the motorbike by Chris Jones. I liked this because it was 3d. I did not like the seat art because it was a bit childish.

We then went to see the "How are you Feeling" exhibition at the Cornerhouse. I liked this gallery because I think it was art for my own age range because of the swearing and the nature of the art. My favourite piece was the braint bird becomes a nazi. I liked this because its a topic I enjoy and it was funny. I also like the drug addict gorilla.

At the start of the day the thing I was looking forwards to the most was dinner. I saw some graffiti along the way and think that that is art.

We took photos along the way as art and I was part of designing this group shot.

I thought that Chris Jones Work in Manchester City Art Gallery was a clever use of paper and looks skillful. I had an idea about making a robot out of paper. I liked the first exhibition in the Clore gallery of Manchester Art Gallery  because it was interactive and there was excellent Art work there.

The second exhibition was called "How are you Feeling". I liked this exhibition because it was unique and would not be seen in other places.

I'd tell a person my age to go and see exhibition two because it was interesting what the pictures said.

I'd tell a younger person to go and see exhibition one because there was swearing in the second exhibition.

On coming into the Manchester Art Gallery we found the work by Chris Jones. It was called The Earl. I think that it is creative, Skillful, clever and colourful. This piece is based on the Elgin Marbles which are in the entrance at Manchester Art Gallery.

My first impression of the First Cut Exhibition was Wow. I think that making sculpture out of paper is unique, different, clever and beautiful. I was inspired to make a wood or flowers out of paper. I really liked the art work Called Stella Spire in Eagle Nebula by Andrew Singleton. The work I liked least was "As Above so below" by James Aldridge.





I liked The First Cut Exhibition because it was amazing what they did with paper and magazines. I was Fascinated by the artist, Chris Jones, who made a full sized motorbike out of magazines. It looked so realistic.

I found "How Are You Feeling" pointless. I didn't get what the art was about. I also found it a bit boring. It was random pictures on a wall following no pattern. The only thing that I liked was the mini acting activity which was quite fun.

I'd tell a person my age to go and see "First Cut" because I found it amazing that they could do lots of stuff out of paper and magazines. I'd tell a younger person to go and see the clore gallery at Manchester Art Gallery because it was interactive and you could play with stuff.

In the Entrance to Manchester Museum I saw the piece of work by Chris Jones called The Earl. I think that it is creative. Whilst at the First Cut Exhibition I had the idea that I could make a house where everthing works doors etc. The house would have tiny furniture and windows. This was inspired by this work by Su Blackwell.

The first exhibiton we saw was called first cut. I thought that this was the best part of the day. All the art work was unusual and unique. The artists were very clever and creative. It really had a creative feel. My first impression of the First Cut Exhibition was "Wow, that's Mad" The art work I liked the best was by Chris Jones, it was a bike made out of magazines.

The second exhibition was called "How Are You Feeling" this was great too. You got to act and the art work was very unusual. It wasn't a match with First Cut. I though that this exhibition was a bit of a joke.

I'd tell a young person to go and see "First Cut"  because it was great to see and had a really creative feel. I'd tell a younger person to go and see "How are you Feeling" because they would laugh and find it interesting because it was a bit of a joke.

As we started the day I was looking forwards to going and seeing the graffiti street in Manchester.

I took lots of photos at the graffiti street including this one.

Exhibition 1 was called "The First Cut". I thought that this gallery was very good and interesting. There was a lot of art but it wasn't boring. It was colourful and one of the exhibitions was interactive, which was good.

Exhibition 2 was called " How Are you Feeling". this was ok but I didn't get much of the art. The Art was confusing and very monochrome and bland.

I's tell a person my age to go and see the burger king bag tree by Yuken Teruya in the First Cut Exhibition because it was interesting. I'd tell a younger person to go and see the tiriangle mirror in the Clore Gallery in Manchester Art Gallery because it was funny and unusual.

I though the work by Chris Jones called the Earl was Inspirational, exciting and clever. the work was inspired by the Elgin Marbles which line the entrance hall of Manchester Art Gallery.

My first impression of the First Cut Exhibition was WOW!! I think its a good idea to make art out of paper and its Eco friendly too. I found the First cut exhibition interesting. I liked it better than the "How are you Feeling Exhibition" because all the art in "First Cut" had meaning and all the art was different. I didn't like how are you feeling because I didn't understand any of the art and it had no meaning.
