My Review by Charlie Lawler

As I started the day I was looking forwards to seeing the Graffiti on the street. I thought that the leaves in the First Cut Exhibition by Manabu Hangai were amazing, complicted and unique. I liked the work by Claire Brewster in the exhibition, I found it natural and clever.

The work I liked the least was by Sarah Bridgland.

We went to see the David Shrigley exhibition at the Cornerhouse Gallery. The instructions on the wall said that you could take a nap but that you should not bang the gong too loud. I took part in the acting activity on the top floor of the exhibition.

I found the exhibition at once unique, inspirational and meaningless.

The First Cut exhibition in my opinion was the best because it had meaning behind it and was very well presented and crafted. The thing I didn't like in the exhibition was the interactive gallery. I thought it lost the artistic feel the rest of the gallery presented. My favourite part was the stuffed frogs in the human hous it was quirky and unique. "How are you Feeling" was a completly different branch of art from what we had toured in the morning. I thought that it was meaningless and quirky but a great example of what the term 'Art' can reach out to. I'd tell a person my age to go and see the first cut exhibition because it had more of an art feel and time and care was put into the pieces in the gallery. I'd also tell a younger person to go to The first cut exhibition because it is more approriate than  "How are you Feeling" and they will enjoy the interactive room.

The First Cut Exhibition was on the top floor of Manchester Museum. We had a look at the huge leaves called Wonder Forest by Manabu Hangai. I thought that they were clever and I thought that I could print photos of them and display them on papper. I really liked the art work by Claire Brewster.

The artwork I liked the least was Andrew Singleton's piece. We went on to look around the rest of the gallery and I enjoyed this piece in the Interactive clore gallery.

We went to a space outside The BridgeWater Hall and tried to spell out LKYPG using things we say around us.

I thought that both of the exhibitions we saw were good. If I was going to recommend something to a person of my own age I would tell them to go and see the Graffiti because its good to see art outside.

 I'd tell a younger person to go to the Musuem because its very good.

When we met Beth for a morning brew on the Art trip to Manchester I was looking forward to seeing lots of different art in the gallery's. The first exhibition was called The First Cut and was at Manchester Art Gallery. My first impression of the First Cut Exhibition was WOW. I liked The first Cut because all the art work was different and I really liked it. My best piece was the art work by Manabu Hangai.

The second exhibition was called "How are you Feeling" and was by David Shrigley. I liked how are you feeling because there were some unusual things in it but I liked The First Cut better because there was more art in there.

I'd tell a person my own age to go and see The First Cut because there is a lot of art that can inspire people. I'd also tell a younger person to go and see The First Cut because "How are you Feeling" isn't an inspiration.

The first exhibition we went to see was called "First Cut". I liked this one because it was very great. The best thing I liked was the cut outs by Kara Walker on the wall and the big art.

The second exhibition was called "How are you Feeling" by David Shrigley.  I didn't really like this one because of the bad language. The bad language will attract you but other people like old people might not accept the bad language.

I'd tell a person my age to go and see the Graffiti street in Manchester off Oxford Road because people my age would do graffiti. I'd tell a younger person to go and see First Cut because they can't see swear words and might not like Graffiti.

After Visiting Manchester Art Gallery to see the We Face Forward Exhibition I decided that I liked this work by El Anatusi because it is very different to anything I've seen before.

I found this work by Barth Toguo difficult to understand because it looked like they had just built it and thrown stuff on it. It was easier to understand once the lady at the exhibition explained that it was about African's trying to get out of the country and not being allowed to leave.  I liked seeing other peoples art and seeing what they think. I enjoyed taking photos of the art work. I found the picture by Billingham hard to understand because its a picture anyone could take. I found The Smiths exhibition to be too plain. 

If somebody my own age as goig to Manchester to look at Art I'd tell them to go around Manchester and look at the graffiti and to go and visit Manchester Art Gallery.

We went to have a look around Manchester Art Gallery to see the We Face Forward Exhibition. I liked the Fetish Statues by Pascale Marthine Tayou because they were interesting and I like to learn about different cultures. I found the work by Richard Billingham difficult to understand because the man in the photo looked like he was drunk and I don't like seeing people drunk.


I liked all of the things I saw in Manchester and I liked that I got to see a variety of things. The only bit I didn't like was the Richard Billingham photo. If I was going to recommend to a person my age one thing you must see it would be the Airoplane picture at the Manchester Art Gallery.

As I got on the train to visit Manchester to look at Art I was Looking forward to using the digital cameras Beth had brought along with her. Along the way I looked out for things which I thought were art and made this collage out of things from the newspaper.

When we got to Manchester Art Gallery I looked at the art work by Haroom Mirizas. I thought that the best part of this art work was the Pink s and the worst part was the sleek dry yell part. I thought that Piniag Dakar's animation was too small and would have looked better if it had been projected larger.  The art work in the modern gallery which I would recommend to my friends would be Roberlas Physical Stable 2 because its colourful. I didn't like the work By Richard Billingham because it was dull.

Looking back on the whole day I liked the graffiti because the way they do it is good. Graffiti is difficult to do when you first start and then you get used to it. I think it takes about a year of practice to get good at it and the pieces in Manchester were very special. I liked the work by El Anatsui. It was colourful and beautuful. If I was going to send somebody to look at the art in Manchester I would send them to look at the more colourful art works. I like the way the colours mix.
